David Antonio is an acclaimed contemporary Acoma Pueblo potter born in 1961 who specializes in traditional hand-coiled, thin-walled polychrome ollas and jars.

His parents David Sr. and Hilda Antonio are also celebrated Acoma Pueblo potters. His works are typically signed on the bottom with markers like “D. Antonio Acoma N.M.” or “Antonio Acoma N.M.”

Acoma Pueblo (Haaku) pottery is renowned for its exceptionally thin walls, hand-coiled construction using local clay (often tempered with ground sherds from older pots), white slip, and intricate hand-painted designs, typically fired outdoors. skycityacoma.org +1 Black-on-white is a classic style (sometimes technically polychrome due to red/orange slips on the underbody, neck interior, or rim) featuring mineral black paint on a white-slipped ground. Designs often include fine-line geometrics, “eye-dazzler” patterns (dense hatching, checkerboards, steps, spirals), Tularosa-inspired motifs from ancestral Puebloan pottery, rain symbols, or animals. These draw from Mimbres and other prehistoric influences revived in the 20th century.
