Marie Zieu Chino (19071982), a renowned master potter and matriarch of one of Acoma’s most influential pottery families. She was celebrated for her precise fine-line black-on-white designs, often incorporating geometric patterns, ancient Ancestral Puebloan and Mogollon influences, and sometimes more innovative or detailed motifs. Marie began potting young (winning prizes as a teen) and taught her daughters (like Grace Chino and Carrie Chino Charlie), who continued the tradition.

Acoma Pueblo (also known as Sky City), one of the oldest continuously inhabited communities in North America, located in New Mexico. Acoma pottery is renowned for its thin walls, delicate construction (often using the coil-and-scrape method), fine-line geometric designs, and polychrome or black-on-white color schemes featuring motifs like rainbows, parrots, deer, or intricate patterns in black, red/brown, and white.
