Alizarin Crimson Hue (Golden OPEN Acrylic)

A modern version of the historical Alizarin Crimson, which was a substitute for Rose Madder, a dye used for the British Redcoats. Our mix of quinacridone, nickel azo, and phthalo makes this exceptionally lightfast and strong in tinting, with a deep reddish-brown undertone like the historical color. Series 7.

OPEN Slow-Drying Acrylics

OPEN Acrylics are a slow-drying paint with a slightly softer consistency than our Heavy Body paints. The extended working time of these colors expands their range to include more traditional techniques that were once possible only with oil paint. Thick applications can dry extremely slowly, so we recommend that artists use OPEN Colors only thinly (< 1 mm). Drying time can also be accelerated by mixing OPEN with faster-drying acrylics, such as our Fluid and Heavy Body colors. The slow-drying properties of OPEN Acrylics also make it suitable for certain printmaking techniques.

Because OPEN Acrylics dry slowly, painters who cover their palettes or use sealed containers can keep the same colors for weeks, reducing paint waste and preserving color mixtures for future use.
