An extraordinarily rare pair of Antique French wedding shoes dating to approximately the 1850’s, exquisitely fashioned in supple white kid leather and adorned with a leather bow adorned with wax orange blossom flowers and buds. The refined silhouette gently tapered with graceful proportions reflects the elegance of mid-19th century French bridal slippers. The low leather covered French Louis XV heel is in good condition, some of the leather on the inside of one is loosening, on the outside they are intact.

The kid leather has softened to a luminous ivory patina over time, bearing the tender marks of age that affirm authenticity and history. The wax blossoms, fragile by nature and seldom surviving intact, remain a poetic embellishment symbolic of purity and devotion. There were most likely silk ribbons to tie them on the leg, the ribbons are no longer there, you can just see where they were stitched on over a century ago.

Shoes of this period were handcrafted for lifes most significant ceremony and rarely endured beyond it. Their survival today offers a deeply romantic glimpse into the intimate rituals of a French bride preparing for her wedding day in the Second Empire era.An exceptional artifact of historic costume, equally captivating beneath glass, within a bridal tableau, or in a distinguished collection of 19th century fashion.

Collectors Note

Mid-19th century French bridal shoes are scarce; examples retaining original wax floral adornments are particularly rare due to the delicate nature of the material. Such pieces are highly sought after by collectors of early costume, wedding ephemera, and museum-quality French fashion.
