Athabascan Birch Bark Baskets are a traditional craft primarily associated with Athabascan (or Athabaskan/Den) peoples of interior Alaska and parts of Canada (such as Yukon and British Columbia). These baskets are handmade from birch bark, known for being waterproof, flexible, and durable.

Traditionally, Athabascan women harvested the outer layer of birch bark in spring or early summer (when the sap flows, making it easier to peel without killing the tree). The bark was steamed or warmed for pliability, folded or cut, and stitched with split spruce or willow roots using an awl. These baskets served practical purposes like Collecting berries, Carrying water, Storing food (including meat and fish, as the bark helps prevent rotting) and Even cooking (by adding hot stones to liquids).
