Vangie Suina (full name Mary Evangeline “Vangie” Suina, born around 1959) is a renowned contemporary potter from the Cochiti Pueblo, a Native American community located about 22 miles southwest of Santa Fe, New Mexico. Born into a family with deep roots in pottery-making, she was taught the craft by her mother, Louise Suina, starting at age 22. Vangie uses traditional hand-coiling techniques passed down through generations, sourcing her clay from within the Cochiti Pueblo. After firing her pieces outdoorsa method that gives Cochiti pottery its distinctive warm tonesshe hand-paints them with natural pigments derived from plants and minerals, often in vivid, contemporary colors that set her work apart.
