The Crow Mother, known as Angwusnasomtaka or Tmas in Hopi mythology, is a significant kachina, often regarded as the mother of all kachinas. She plays a central role in the Powamu (Bean Dance) ceremony, supervising the initiation of children into the Kachina society. She carries yucca whips used in ritual whipping and often holds a basket of corn kernels or bean sprouts, symbolizing the start of the growing season. On Third Mesa, shes called Crow Bride (Angwushahai-i) due to her white attire, while on other mesas, shes simply Crow Mother. Her depiction typically includes a turquoise mask with crow wings or feathers and an upside-down black triangle on her face.
