Makah lidded baskets (often called “trinket baskets”) from Neah Bay, Washington, are finely woven decorative items produced by Makah women. The Makah (Kwih-dich-chuh-ahtx, “people who live by the rocks and seagulls”) inhabit the Olympic Peninsula at the northwest tip of Washington state. Basketry is a central traditional art form tied to their marine and forest environment.
