32.25 high x 44 wide x 15 deep

A rare early and impressive wrought iron bar grate with unusual original detachable upper tier. Now very scarce this form of grate was used in front of a downhearth or open fire, to keep pets and children from getting too close, to stop logs rolling off the hearth and for hanging utensils and cooking materials on. This example has a strong sculptural presence with its scrolled finials and wide section curved feet and is in excellent working condition. A real rarity with great historic style.
