Hopi kachina carvers from the Youvella family are well-known, particularly Alexander R. Youvella Sr. (sometimes listed as Alex Youvella), a respected artist from First Mesa who has won awards for his detailed carvings.

The Momo Bee Kachina (also called the Bumblebee Kachina or simply Bee Katsina) is a spirit representation in Hopi (and sometimes Zuni) culture. “Momo” directly translates to “bee” in the Hopi language. This kachina symbolizes fertility, pollination, and the vital role bees play in bringing growth to plants, which is essential for the Hopi’s agricultural society.
